AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This thesis considers the politics of work in three manufacturing industries, and includes a detailed history of the printing industry in Victoria. The thesis, and subsequent book, has separate chapters which deal specifically with the changes occurring in the Victorian printing industry from the 1880s until World War Two. These chapters consider transformations in the organisation and technology of printing as well as the intersections between such changes and the labour process and the sexual division of labour.
