Author's note: In the present confused state of criticism, I hardly know whether I shall be most censured for fantastic impertinence in praising or in attacking (inasmuch as I have here done both) an illustrious living poet. But the subject of any attempt at Art should be interesting, and a conflict of sincerely self-imposed loyalties seems to me at least to have this quality. - J. P.
