Leigh McLaughlin leaves the protective influence of his parents on a grazing property in outback Queensland and the loving arms of Julie, his fiancee, to fight in the haunting conflict in Vietnam. Leigh faces many dangers and develops a mateship with members of his platoon. However, the deceit by one of the men eventuates in a mate's death through drugs. Leigh pledges revenge.

On his return to Australia his commitment takes him to the Gold Coast where he witnesses the debilitating effects of drugs on young people. They are forced into prostitution, crime and even murder to survive. In an intriguing and action-packed sequence of events, which are linked to his experiences in Vietnam, Leigh eventually solves the mystery of the drug trafficking ring.
