Adapted from Rosa Praed's 1881 novel Policy and Passion (q.v.).

Adapted for the stage by and performed with the title 'Passion' at the Sydney 'Gaiety' 12 April 1884. Adaptation has been attributed to Edward Reeve (q.v.)(Oxford Companion to Australian Literature) and to Wybert Reeve (q.v.) (Oxford Companion to Theatre in Australia). Veronica Kelly's Annotated Calendar of Plays Premiered in Australia 1870-1890 confirms the latter attribution as correct.
