The title of the poem refers to the imagined 'New Zealander' figure used in several of Macaulay's reviews - a future antipodean traveller who comes to visit London when it is in ruins. Stephens' poem is a witty reflection on such British views of the antipodean colonies and colonists. The first line references Tennyson's 'Ulysses'.
