Michael Duffy ponders the 'disappearance of significant Australian artists, in any art form', during his lifetime. He suggests a range of reasons for his perception, including 'the dead hand of subsidy', that reality that 'some older art forms are simply dying' and the possibility that 'the creative impulse today has more outlets outside the arts than once existed'.
