A patriotic acknowledgement of the traditions that bind Australia with England, extending beyond imperialist trade relations to a combined war effort against the 'demagogue, the tyrant, and the slave'. The poem concludes by honouring the Australian 'sons' who have joined the war effort despite intra-government dissent about Australian involvement.

Loyalty to the King, Walter Murdoch , extract prose
Murdoch explains the meaning of '[l]oyalty to the King' as a 'symbol of national unity [and] a symbol of the nation itself, which abides through all change'.
