Editor's note: A. H. Davis, who has made his pen-name of 'Steele Rudd' famous throughout Australia, is author of many books depicting country life in Queensland, where he was born at Drayton in 1868. His first book, On Our Selection, was published in 1899, and has still great popularity. It has been converted into a very successful drama, and has won equal celebrity as a moving picture. The author's graphic and humorous description of bush incidents and bush character is full of lively passages. In this article, Mr Stephens has had the idea of making criticism implicit in something like a 'Steele Rudd' story.
