AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Wenz...addresses the suffering of animals over which his characters endure agonies of despair and he uses the mistreatment of animals to moment on flaws in human behaviour. Nevertheless, rather than outright condemnation of maltreatment, which he unequivocally abhors, there are contradictions, or at least unresolved tensions, in his works, so that rather than calling for an end to a perceived evil he accepts its inevitability, his character expressing resignation towards a reality to which they must become accustomed in order to cope with their environment.'
