      1882 .
      Note/s:

Notes:
The Melbourne Leader (26 May 1883) informed readers that Philiberta had been purchased by Messrs Ward Lock & Co, London. Again on 1 December 1883 the same paper reported that the prize-winning novel had been 'added by Messrs Ward, Lock & Co to their Library of Select Fiction.' The novel would have been published after it had run its course as a 27-part serial (8 July 1882). The British Library Catalogue gives the date for Philiberta as [1883]; the English Catalogue of Books as 1883. Philiberta is also listed in 'Victorian Yellowbacks & Paperbacks 1849-1905', by Chester Topp, Vol. IV, which lists Ward, Lock publications, and notes that the novel was advertised for sale in The Athenaeum on 15 September 1883.
