'UWA Publishing welcomes the return of Australia's most gifted and prodigious poet, Francis Webb, whose work has been out of print for thirty years in collected form.
'This collection of Francis Webb's poems is the first edition to incorporate Webb's final changes - previously ignored by editors - to several of his poems written in 1969.
'Webb wrote on varied subjects: the sea, postwar Australian cities, mental illness, colonial histories as well as religious and political figures, including St Francis and Hitler.
'His poems are written in a range of styles, from humorous short verse to epics and radio plays.
'The book is introduced by award-winning poet Toby Davidson and accompanied by 100 pages of notes drawing on the latest scholarship and commentaries.'

This essay will ask if poetry can re-imagine and re-write what are often oppressive and exclusionary national discourses, asking how - historically and in contemporary work - poetry has been concerned with national forms of belonging and unbelonging. Further, the essay will ask whether Australian poetry is able to generate new and even hopeful language in which to think about the nation.' (Author's introduction)

Francis Webb and the 1960s
2013
single work
criticism
— Appears in: Antipodes , June vol. 27 no. 1 2013; (p. 19-24) After seven years in England, Francis Webb (1925-1973) flew back to Australia in November 1960. While his English experience was a chequered one characterized by various experiences of institutionalization, his final four years in the Norfolk region permitted him some freedom of movement and creative inspiration through the area's medieval roots, which for the poet were also ancestral, his great-grandfather hailing from Yarmouth. Here, Davidson traces Webb's physical and poetic return to Australia through biographical sources, including newly published accounts by his friend Sr. Pauline Fitz-Walter and his direct influence on two Generation of 68 luminaries, Bruce Beaver (1928-2004) and Robert Adamson (1943-).' — Appears in: Island , Spring no. 126 2011; (p. 132-138) 'One of the paradoxes of any collected poems edition is that it is only complete once in the hands of its readers, yet readers have their own visions of completeness which may outflank those of the editor. In such cases, an editor should immediately and publicly respond, which is my duty here with respect to Francis Webb Collected Poems (UWA Publishing, 2011). I will also touch on reviews and performances of Webbs's work that have proliferated since the book's first launch at the Perth Writer's Festival.' (Author's introduction, p. 132)
