(p. 162-174)An instance of mistaken attribution in nineteenth century Australian serial fiction is discussed, in which an early Australian author disappeared from the record when the bulk of her published output was attributed to another writer. Published under the pseudonym 'Ariel', five long tales were wrongly attributed to Eliza Winstanley. Despite disappearing from the record of Australian literature for over a century, Menie Parkes was the true author of the Ariel stories.
