Appeared in Bell's Life in Sydney along with an item from Freeman's Journal on the memorial erected at Morton's grave at Ashfield Cemetery, in Sydney.

Pickering and Morton apparently became close friends during their time at Bell's Life in Sydney. In 1872, Pickering's son, Rowland Ferrers Pickering (q.v.), married Morton's daughter Katherine.
