AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The discovery of what seemed to be the vestiges of the garden planted in Recherche Bay in 1792 by Félix Delahaye, the gardener of the d'Entrecasteaux expedition, created great debate as to whether the area explored by the expedition should be preserved. Edward Duyker's article is devoted to the background to this debate, focusing on the French garden.' (Author's abstract)
