Notes

  • Whilst it is not entirely clear, Kendall's target here appears to have been the New South Wales M.L.C. Joseph Innes (1834-1896), then Minister of Justice and also Chairman of Committees. Like the subject of this poem, Innes was born in 1834, he attended Cape's School and the University of Sydney, was a barrister, etc. Here also see Kendall's poem 'An Innings with Innes', which appears to have had Innes as its target.
