This book is based on research conducted for the author's PhD thesis at the University of Sydney. The research draws upon letters written by Italian migrants in Australia during the late 1950s and early 1960s and held at the Mitchell Library in Sydney. It also draws upon two columns edited by journalist Lena Gustin for the Italian Australian newspaper, La Fiamma. The letters by Italian migrants were written either to the columns or directly to Gustin (p. 12).
