Sarah Ogilvie, Director of the Australian National Dictionary Centre (ANDC), discusses research into early Australian English usage. She suggests that 'searching for citations in handwritten manuscripts is ... the perfect crowd-sourcing project, reaching out to the public via the Web to help in discrete scholarly tasks'. The ANDC hopes to create a 'Word Zoo' (based on Oxford's Galaxy Zoo model) and to 'give the public the chance to join us in our dictionary making'.
