— Appears in: Southerly , vol. 79 no. 2 2021; (p. 222-228)
'After winning the 2019 Victorian Prize for Literature and Premier’s Literary Prize for Non-Fiction, Behrouz Boochani’s No Friend but the Mountains attracted a significant amount of international attention. Many overseas publishers immediately began expressing interest in translating and publishing the award-winning book. An Arabic translation was confirmed; Cairo-based Al Arabi publisher Sherif Baker obtained the rights with Reem Dawood as EnglishArabic translator. In March 2019, after Al Arabi’s official announcement, Al Ahram newspaper journalist Heba Abdel Sattar arranged an interview with the book’s English translator Omid Tofighian who at the time was Assistant Professor at the American University in Cairo. The interview was also translated into Arabic by Abdel Sattar and published in Al Ahram on 26 March, 2019. This piece contains Tofighian’s full responses in English.' (Introduction)
