BiographyHistory

Alison Gibbs grew up on the north coast of New South Wales. She has an Arts Degree, and a Master in Creative Writing from University of Technology Sydney. Alison has written numerous short stories and essays both in Australia and internationally, including short story 'Mr Stephenson's Suit', runner up in June 2013 Global Short Story Competition; short story 'Woman Bathing' broadcast by BBC World Service in 1992; and two short stories in the UTS Anthology Sightlines. The short story 'Things to Do Before You Die' was shortlisted for publication in the 2019 Masters Review.

Alison has also worked for Amnesty International.

'Alison Gibbs examines how characters are shaped by politics in Nadine Gordimer’s short story, ‘The Catch’: ‘While Nadine Gordimer was known for both her fiction and her outspoken opposition to apartheid in her native South Africa, she always insisted that politics was not the driving motivation for her stories.’
