Ann Nakano has lived in Japan and was a staff writer for the Mainichi Daily News. She has also freelanced for numerous magazines and newspapers throughout the world. She has lived in both Europe and Australia, and has travelled extensively in the Pacific and Far East regions, as well as being the Director of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre in Canberra. She has written or edited a number of non-fiction and reference works about indigenous cultures, including Broken Canoe : Conversations and Observations in Micronesia (1983), Sources of Ngunnawal History in the National Library (1997) and Heritage and Native Title (1996). Her books about Japan include Kokusai Kekkon Tsukareru ne (1985) and Japanese Women : A Century of Living History (1986).
