Visiting Fellowships at Clare Hall, Cambridge; Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences; Australian Research Council Senior Research Fellowship in Paris; Maison Sciences de L'Homme (Paris). Numerous editorial boards, including the New Directions in Archaeology series of Cambridge University Press. Editor of the Bulletin of the History of Archaeology. In 2000 appointed an overseas member of the Research Centre of Ancient Civilization, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and in 2003 elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.'
