The Quill Awards were established in 1995 by the Melbourne Press Club to recognise excellence in Victorian journalism. The Awards began with 10 categories but quickly expanded to incorporate new awards including the Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year Award.
The overall best category winner is awarded the Gold Quill, a prize sponsored by Tattersall's. A Lifetime Achievement Award is also included annually.
